Dangerous Recreational Activities:

An adventure vacation company advertised cliff jumping as part of its active recreational vacation package. The 21-year old tourist who jumped into a lake from a height of 60-feet and was killed was unaware that this was a highly dangerous activity that had previously killed a number of participants. Baum and Blake was successful in obtaining a substantial settlement for the parents of the deceased.

Rock Fences Prevent Accidents:

Baum and Blake was retained to represent the widow of a truck driver who was killed when his truck struck a large rock that had rolled down a slope in a storm on a country road. Baum and Blake successfully argued at trial that rock fences would have prevented the accident. The State's own rock test videotapes proved the case.

Helicopter Crash in Grand Canyon:

Baum and Blake represented Dutch tourists who were involved in a helicopter crash in the Grand Canyon. The same model of helicopter had crashed earlier in Los Angeles and the videotape shows exactly the same manner of crash as occurred in the Grand Canyon incident. The videotape was instrumental in preparing a strong case on liability that resulted in a substantial settlement.

Biomechanical Testing Proves a Case:

A mother wheeling her infant in a stroller from a parking garage was struck on the head by the arm of a parking gate that was unwillingly activated by the stroller as it was pushed across an underground electronic sensor. Had a rubber bumper been installed on the gate arms, serious injury would have been avoided as shown by the videotape of biomechanical and other testing.

Helicopter Rescue:

A mountain biker was seriously injured when the front wheel of his bicycle came off as he was coming down a mountain slope. His evacuation from the scene of the accident by helicopter was captured by a fellow biker on a handheld video camera and this tape records the events exactly as they occurred.

Graphic Images Explain Complicated Truck Accident:

A cement truck went out of control after its near side wheels got caught in a dangerous drop off just off the paved surface of a two-lane highway. The truck went onto its wrong side of the road and crashed an oncoming car killing a 21-year old female driver. Baum and Blake utilized graphic images at trial to explain how the drop off trapped the truck wheel and caused the vehicle to go out of control.

Oakland Bay Bridge Collapse:

Baum and Blake handled the most significant case in the Oakland Bay Bridge collapse. A tourist from Fiji was directed to proceed on the upper eastbound deck after the bridge highway had collapsed from the upper to the lower deck. The tourist, unfamiliar with the road and unsighted by the road curvature, drove into the gap and was seriously injured.
